Paper cups and plastic bags

Posted by admin on January 14, 2009

Paper cups and plastic bags is a short term for me to talk about all the packages and ready meals bags that are in use.

Take away meal for example, they pack you the meal in the aluminium plate, drink in the paper cup, salt a paper is the plastic small bags, one time use fork and knife, plastic bag to rap it all together and sometimes even more packages and plastic items.

After eating your to go lunch, all these are going to the waste and its a big waste to the environment. You are using one plastic fork maybe, but you are buying 3-4 meals a week. Also the place you are buying your meals at is selling to many others. Like this place there are hundreds in town, thousands in the country and millions in the world. One thing in common to all these places, they are using Paper cups and plastic bags.

Green action is to understand the no need of these one time items and the easy move to use the same metal fork for all the meals you are eating. Save this fork in a drawer in your office and reuse it for all meals. Same for the knife, meals and so on. Make your own meals at work instead of buying ready meals will save you money and save the environment.

If we will know how to reduce the use in Paper cups and plastic bags and all around items we are using daily and we will know to educate our surrenders to do the same, we have made major step for the environment.

Is Google green?

Posted by admin on January 12, 2009

Is Google green? does the activity in th huge computer centers and servers farms green?

No,  according to new research that was published lately.

Every time you make a Google search and there are around 200 million a day! 7 grams of CO2, Carbon Dioxide is released to the environment. The source for this pollution is the major energy needed to operate the total Google services around the world, including the servers, computers, people and so on. Data centers for example are known as high energy consumers and the IT industry in the world makes the same amount of pollution as the airlines activity !

7 grams is maybe not too much, but if we are talking about 200 million searches a day, we are talking about major pollution regarding the Google services. Google from their side are trying to minimize the pollution by using alternatuve energy sources and by trying to save energy usage.

Google, like MSN, Yahoo, Media companies, online service centers and internet users are all “helping” to the global warmong and pollution. Every sinlg minute we are surfing the net pollute more because of the energy in use. So how can we be more green about it?

Use less energy, surf less and use less computer time.

Use recycable enery and alternative energy sources.

Green action – save electricity.

Time to take the green action  – save electricity.

The over use in power is one of the major problems of the modern world. We all use power and energy to heat ourselves, to make our food, to transport from place to another and to enjoy modern life. Do we really need to use so much power in the daily life? the answer is no. We can save much of the power we are using.

Save electricity:

Heat the exact amount of water needed, close your computer at night, close unneeded lights at night and when leaving the house. Change the lights to LED lamps, use the washing machine only when its full, Do not over heat your house and use high temperature on the air condition. plug off n used electricity items, close the light when you go to bed, locate the fridge in a cool place and use Sun to heat the house.

This and more to do in order to take the small action – for the big change.

Driving together producing less pollution

Posted by admin on January 9, 2009

The idea is not new and becoming more and more popular among people from all over the world – driving together.

Have a car? take someone with you for your trip. Need a ride? look for someone with a car to join to.

More and more commercial and social websites are joining the effort to promote join riding. More people to drive in one car means less cars on the road. Less cars means less traffic and much less pollution. Check around you next time you are driving to work, how many people are in the car next to you, and in the car behind? who is driving with you if any? Its a total waste of power, waste of energy and over pollution for no cause.

Big companies are bonusing their employees for drivng together. Instead of liese 4 cars for 4 different employees who are living in the same toun, the complany liese one car and divide it to the four of them. Each day one of them is taking the car home and he must take his friend with him to work and back home after work.

Think who you can take with you while driving, think if you can leave the car at home and drive with someone else. Take a green action and drive together.

2009 and the global warming

Posted by admin on January 4, 2009

2009 is going to be hot year, thats a fact!

Global warming is still here, every extra power we are using, every pollutions and over heat is caout in the atmosphere and heating earth. The global warming is here, what are you doing to stop it ?

Global warming is not just melting glaciers and raising sea level, its also the temperature all around. Two major forces are acting against each other in the global warming playground, El Niño and La Niña. These forces are different stages in a cyclical global pattern well known by meteorologists as the great Southern Oscillation.

So in 2009, expect normal temperature of 0.4 Celzious above the average all over the planet.

Think green, be green, try to eco your actions and use less energy. This is the minimum to do n order to take green action to help the planet cool down.

Re use glass bottles

Posted by admin on December 30, 2008

Recycling activities are very important, this is not the right post to take about them. YesWeGreen is full of recycling information, recycling tips and idea’s how to recycle and what can be recycled. This post is about one stage above recycling – re using.

Lets talk about galss bottles. In order to make new glass bottle, you waste the sand for the glass, the energy for the manufacturing process and for the logistic to bring the bottle to your home. When you recycle the bottle after use, you save the sand, some of the energy and costs. Now think what happen when you re use the bottle!

The only thing happen to the glass bottle when its re use is sterilization. They took it as it is, clean it and fill it again with your favorite soda drink. So easy, so simple, so good to the environment. This is working very good in India and saving the production of more than 50,000 tons of new bottles each year!

Think gren and think of re using. Glass bottles is just the start.

Save energy at your kitchen.

Posted by admin on December 28, 2008

IF you have the clothes washing machine inside your kitchen like in the UK or if you don’t, the kitchen is still place when lots of energy is in use. Cooking, washing dishes, baking and so on e activities which demands energy and you can easily cut this energy in use by 20%. There are some basic rules to know when you are about to save energy at the kitchen.

The fridge and freezer are both energy consumers and both need to be handle with wise. Locate the freezer and the fridge away from direct sun light, far from heating accessories such oven and microwave and make sure they are always closed. In case some ice is gathering inside, clean it. Never put hot pots and items inside, it makes the fridge to work harder and harder means more energy.

Heating water for coffee, don’t need big and medium size pots. Use the smallest needed for the amount of water you are looking for. The heating takes a lot of energy and if this water are cooling back, its a great waste. Same with using the oven, don’t over heat, done bake 4 hours pie.

Cook smart and save energy. For cooking frozen food, take the package from the freezer one day earlier and not 5 minutes before cooking. This way you will save the energy to unfreeze the product. In case you have no time, use the too much water you heated for your coffee and unfreeze with them. This is power saving.

In your kitchen, there are many ways to save energy, think of energy saving while cooking.

Eco- friendly house

Eco- friendly house

Our home is maybe the first place where we can save energy and use more alternative energies for our best. The options to save energy, to save water and to recycle are all open, the only thing you need is the information how to save the energy. Check this short Electricity Guide for the information you can use, includes tips and advice about saving energy.

Solar power- implant solar panels on your roof and produce cheat and green power. These panels are already available to buy anywhere and are easy to install.

Isolation and green bulding- Isolate your roof, walls and floor to keep the heat at winter and the chill at summer. build with energy saving materials, double windows and ground walls.

Compost producer- Install one of these small composters at home, recycle all green materials for re use at your garden and plants. This compost is very good for use after few weeks and the amount of waste you can save is big.

Water recycling system- Use one the the water systems to recycle and save water. Generate rain water and re use them in the summer, collect toilet and dishwasher water for re use at the garden and so on. Grey water systems are available to purchase today.

Produce energy- Advanced ways to produce energy with water stream near the house, wind turbine if you live in a windy area and waves energy in case you leave near the ocean.

The question is not whether to save energy or not, the question is where can i save energy and how can i save energy.

Water pollution effects human health

Water pollution effects human health

Pollution is bad in general, we are breathing polluted air, drinking polluted water and eating fruits ans vegetables, grown in polluted land. In most cases we do not see the pollution nor smell it, but its still there.

Some chemicals that a factory thrown into the river, or some personal throwing his old PC between the trees are effecting the underground water and polluting them. These are the effects we are drinking inside our water:

1. Heavy metals comes from several sources. Chemical and metal Industries, wrong waste expulsion and electronic garbage. These metals are finding the way into our water in on surface streams and underground aquifers.  The toxic water that now pumped and delivered to the consumers are causing diseases, hart attacks and cancer.

2. Microbial pollutants from waste and on land pollution, also finds the way to the underground water and cause diseases, epidemics , reproductive failure and children growing problems. This kind of pollution is invisible, almost with no smell, but its there.

3. Air pollution. Yes, Air pollution is a major aspect in water pollution. As the air getting polluted, the rain is getting more acid. This rains together with morning dew gets into the land and water and cause immune suppression and acute poisoning.

Think about all the aspects when you are throwing the batteries into the regular garbage can and not into the special batteries can. Think of the drinking water before you allow your boss at the factory to pollute the nearby river.

Keep the water clean for he health of our all.

Paper recycling

Posted by admin on December 18, 2008

Paper recycling is one of the best ways to save both energy and water. The bis advantage while recycling paper and products made from paper, is for the trees.  More than 50 acres of trees are cut down every day for the paper industry. The more paper we will throw to the recycling bin, the higher this industry will go and the higher is our profit. As we save more trees and use less energy we are becoming greener.

Learn how to recycle paper is 5 steps:

1. The paper trash is collected from bins and recycling spots.

2. At the recycling plant,  after the paper is collected from bins and recycling spots, it is speared into the different

3. The paper is cleaned and mixed with water to make the slurry. This is the paper soapy paper ready to recycle.

Additional materials are mixed with the slurry to make the paper suitable for certain products.

4. High rollers presses the slurry to thin sheets.

5. The paper sheets are left to dry and been rolled back to use.

The process to recycle paper is so simple and it must happen more. In ordet to develop the paper recycling technologies we must give them more work. Recycle paper as a way of life.

We are green, are you?

The people which taking part at the Yes We Green project are ecological people. If you are ecological, you like to learn how to be more ecological or like to share your knowledge, welcome.
